Online learning ADL

The first best practice, published on the QA Hub, represents an important milestone toward enhancing collaboration and sharing of information within the NATO QA Community of Interest. This best practice was the outcome of an on-site visit conducted as a part of the institutional accreditation process for the Italian Joint Air Operations School (ITA JAOS) in June 2024. At its core, the best practice consists of an online course (ADL) providing an overview of the NATO Education and Individual Training (E&IT) framework. This course includes introductory notions about Global Programming, Systems Approach to Training, and Quality Assurance.

Here are the key aspects identified:

High-level overview: The course offers the briefest introduction to the NATO E&IT framework, considering only the main ideas that will not overwhelm the learner. The training solution is user-friendly for all staff, ensuring that each member has good understanding of NATO's expectations for education and individual training.

Mandatory Participation: All staff members, whether academic or administrative, must complete the course. It is integrated into the induction process for newcomers, reinforcing its importance in supporting the understanding of the organization's training processes.

LMS Integration: The course is distributed through ITA JAOS's internal Learning Management System platform, which is based on Moodle. This system tracks participation, ensuring accountability and completion.

Accessibility (Download) and Preview: The course content is freely available for download, as a SCORM package, on the QA Hub (click here) or here. Institutions interested in adopting the course can have a preview of all the content without registration by signing in as a guest (preview link). The preview environment is based on Moodle, version 4.4.

The ITA JAOS's willingness to share this best practice with the broader NATO QA Community of Interest reflects the collaborative mindset and commitment to continuous improvement that is present within Education and Training Facilities supporting NATO. By making the course freely available, ITA JAOS not only sets a precedent for transparency and cooperation but also provides a valuable resource that other institutions can adopt and implement.

This milestone proves the QA Hub's potential as a central repository for best practices, lessons learned, and lessons identified. It highlights the platform's role in enhancing the quality of education and training across NATO, ensuring that all members can benefit from shared knowledge and experiences. The next step will be developing a section for a structured database, where members can search best practices based on various relevant filters.

Under this noble perspective, we encourage all members of the NATO QA Community of Interest to actively contribute to the QA Hub. By sharing your best practices and insights, you can help build a robust database that supports continuous improvement and a culture of excellence in NATO Education and Individual Training.
