Today, 30 September 2024, the NATO Military Committee formally farewelled Mr Jens Stoltenberg, whose tenure as Secretary General is coming to an end. He will be succeeded by Mr Mark Rutte, former Prime Minister of the Netherlands on 1 October 2024.

NATO boosts cooperation amongst Schools for Non-Commissioned Officers
NATO’s Defence Education Enhancement Programme (DEEP) organised the 3rd Annual Conference of Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) Academies and Schools, from 16 to 19 September 2024, in Batumi, Georgia. It brought together NATO’s four ICI partners (Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates) as well as Saudi Arabia, Oman and the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

This year’s theme was “The Future Indo-Pacific: Building a Resilient and Interconnected Region.” Admiral Bauer attended at the invitation of Admiral Samuel Paparo, Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command. On the side-lines of the conference, Admiral Bauer met with Chiefs of Defence from Partner nations Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

NATO’s Digital Ocean Initiative gets a boost in Portugal
NATO Allies gathered for the REPMUS 24 exercise in Portugal to test the ability of autonomous systems to operate together and to increase Alliance understanding of new threats in the maritime environment. They are joined by representatives of partner countries and organisations, NATO commands, research institutions and industry. REPMUS (Robotic Experimentation and Prototyping with Maritime Unmanned Systems) is the world’s leading experimentation exercise with maritime unmanned systems. REPMUS 24 is being held around the Troia Peninsula in Portugal from 9 to 27 September 2024.
