Introducing CAIDIE and DocTalk®
The NATO QA Hub continues to evolve as a digital environment supporting Quality Assurance (QA) in Education and Individual Training. As part of this evolution, we are pleased to announce the launch of the AI Assistant Platform, a new capability designed to improve access to information, guidance, and expert knowledge for the QA community.
The AI Assistant Platform currently includes two complementary AI assistants:
CAIDIE (with expertise focused on NATO Centres of Excellence)
DocTalk (with expertise focused on NATO Global Programming, Systems Approach to Training, and Quality Assurance)
Both assistants are integrated capabilities of the broader C-NAPSE platform initiative and are now available to QA Hub users.
Why an AI Assistant Platform?
Quality Assurance activities depend on:
Accurate interpretation of policies and standards
Consistent use of terminology (very important!)
Access to authoritative and up-to-date information
Timely answers to complex, context-specific questions.
Over time, the amount of QA-related information like policies, reports, guidance, best practices, and COE publications has grown significantly. While this information exists, it is often distributed across multiple documents and websites, making it time-consuming to locate, compare, and interpret.
The AI Assistant Platform addresses this challenge by providing purpose-built AI assistants that support QA and COE related stakeholders in their daily work, while keeping human oversight and responsibility firmly in place.
CAIDIE – COE-Network AI-Driven Interactive Digital Expert
CAIDIE is designed to support users who need to explore, understand, and connect information related to the NATO Centres of Excellence (COE) network.
What CAIDIE does
CAIDIE allows users to:
Ask questions in natural language
Receive structured, professional answers
Explore topics that span multiple COEs and functional domains.
Its responses are grounded in authoritative COE sources, including:
Official COE websites
Curated COE publications and reports
Publicly available documents relevant to COE activities.
CAIDIE is particularly useful for users seeking network-wide insight, situational awareness, or orientation across the COE ecosystem.
Advanced CAIDIE and DocTalk® Capabilities
CAIDIE offers a set of advanced features designed to give users control, flexibility, and transparency.
Configurable tools (gear-wheel menu)
By clicking the gear-wheel icon, users can activate or deactivate additional capabilities with a simple tick of a box, including:
Smart Assist
Enables more guided, context-aware responses for complex questions.Web Search
Allows CAIDIE to search relevant online sources when appropriate, complementing its internal knowledge base.Templated input and output
Helps structure both questions and responses, improving clarity and consistency.
These options allow users to adapt CAIDIE to their specific task or use case.
Continuous COE website crawling
CAIDIE is capable of regularly crawling the official websites of approximately 30 NATO COEs, extracting and updating relevant information.
This ensures that:
Answers reflect current and evolving content
Newly published material is progressively integrated
Users benefit from up-to-date COE knowledge, not static snapshots.
This capability is specific to CAIDIE and supports its role as a network-aware digital expert. Although, DocTalk® would be perfectly capable to do this task as well if required.
User-provided documents (session-based)
Users can upload their own documents during a session to:
Add additional context
Improve the relevance and quality of responses
Tailor answers to a specific activity, project, or question.
These documents are used only within the active session to support better outputs.
Additionally, both AI Assistants have now conversation memory and can remember more than 30 latest prompts to improve accuracy and relevance of the user conversation.
Export and post-processing features
CAIDIE and DocTalk® also supports practical follow-up actions, including:
Exporting conversations as PDF documents, enabling easy sharing or record-keeping
Automatic extraction of actions from both AI assistants` responses, helping users identify tasks, next steps, or follow-up points immediately after an answer is generated
These features are designed to support real-world QA, COE related workflows, not just information retrieval.
Feedback and human review (critical feature)
One of the most important capabilities of CAIDIE and DocTalk® is the feedback mechanism.
After each answer, users can:
Click thumbs up if the response is helpful
Click thumbs down if the response is incomplete, unclear, or incorrect
Propose an alternative or improved answer when providing negative feedback.
This feedback:
Is reviewed by the relevant experts
Helps identify gaps, ambiguities, or improvement areas
Directly contributes to improving the quality and reliability of future responses
Active use of the thumbs up / thumbs down functionality is strongly encouraged and is a key part of the platform’s continuous improvement cycle.
DocTalk – As a QA Policy and Standards Assistant
DocTalk focuses specifically, but not limited to, on NATO Quality Assurance policy, standards, and terminology.
What DocTalk does
DocTalk supports users by:
Clarifying QA-related policies and directives
Explaining terminology and concepts
Supporting consistent interpretation of NATO Quality Standards.
It is particularly useful when working with:
QA policy documents
Accreditation and certification processes
QA roles, responsibilities, and procedures, etc.
DocTalk delivers:
Policy-focused, structured explanations
Clear differentiation between commonly confused concepts
Practical support for QA preparation and review activities
One Platform, Two Complementary Assistants
CAIDIE and DocTalk are designed to complement each other:
CAIDIE provides COE network awareness, exploration, and cross-domain insight
DocTalk provides precision, policy interpretation, and QA standards support.
Together, they form the AI Assistant Platform on the QA Hub. NATO Centres of Excellence are a big part of the NATO QA Programme, namely 17 institutions with the role of Education and Training Facilities.
They are:
Support tools, not decision-makers
Grounded in authoritative sources
Designed to enhance, not replace, human expertise.
Part of the C-NAPSE Platform Initiative
The AI Assistant Platform will be a core component of the C-NAPSE (COE Network Application for Planning, Synchronisation and Exchange) initiative.
C-NAPSE will aim to:
Improve digital cooperation across the COE network
Enable structured knowledge sharing and reuse
Support data-driven planning and coordination
Strengthen coherence across Education, Training, Analysis, and QA activities, within the Education, Training Exercises and Evaluation (ETEE) pillar.
CAIDIE and DocTalk® represent practical, operational building blocks of this broader initiative.
What This Means for QA Hub Users
For QA Hub users, the AI Assistant Platform offers:
Faster access to relevant, authoritative information
Clearer understanding of QA policies and standards as well as COE related topics
Reduced time spent searching through documents
Better support for preparation, analysis, and decision-making.
The platform will continue to evolve based on:
User feedback
Practical usage
QA and COE community needs.
Call to Action
All QA Hub users are encouraged to:
- Explore CAIDIE and DocTalk
- Use them actively in daily QA activities
- Experiment with the available tools and options
- Provide feedback using the thumbs up / thumbs down buttons.
Your feedback is essential. It helps improve the quality, accuracy, and usefulness of the AI Assistant Platform for the entire QA and COE community.
