Autonomous drones take flight at NATO-backed competition
From 6-10 July, four teams of seven researchers and professors from universities in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, United States and Austria challenged each other at the Huntsville UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System) and C-UAS (Counter UAS) test range in Alabama, as part of a competition supported by the NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme.

Allies agree NATO’s 2026-2030 Common Funding Resource Plan
On Wednesday 16 July, the North Atlantic Council approved the 2026-2030 Common Funding Resource Plan. This newest Resource Plan gives an overview of the resource demands over the next five years and allocates the necessary common funds to reflect NATO’s increased level of ambition. In approving this Resource Plan, the Council agreed the 2026 ceilings for the common‑funded Military and Civil Budgets, as well as for NATO’s Security Investment Programme, allocating in total EUR 5.3 billion.

Director General of the International Military Staff concludes three-year tenure
After three years at the helm of the International Military Staff (IMS), Lieutenant General Janusz Adamczak (POL Army) concluded his tenure as Director General. Appointed in July 2022, General Adamczak led the IMS through a period of raising challenges, leading to strategic adaptation, increasing of NATO’s deterrence and defence posture, and enhanced coordination across the Alliance’s military structures.

NATO summit mural unveiled in The Hague
On Sunday 22 June, the Mayor of The Hague, Jan van Zanen, unveiled the winning entries to NATO’s summit mural competition. Following successful editions in Vilnius (2023) and Washington (2024), the 2025 competition marked the third year in a row that NATO has invited young artists from across Europe and North America to submit designs encapsulating the spirit of the Alliance and the personality of the summit’s host city.
NATO appoints new Chief Scientist
